Kolkata Knight Riders' Rinku Singh shines in IPL 2023 match against Gujarat Titans

The 13th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season took place between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders on April 9, 2023, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The match was an exciting encounter between the two teams, with Kolkata Knight Riders emerging victorious.

Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to field first. Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a good start with opener Shubman Gill scoring 47 runs off 29 balls, including 7 fours and a six. Nitish Rana and Eoin Morgan also made valuable contributions, scoring 35 and 31 runs respectively.

For Gujarat Titans, Mohammed Siraj was the standout bowler, picking up two wickets for 26 runs in his four overs. However, the other bowlers struggled to contain the Kolkata Knight Riders batsmen, with the team eventually posting a total of 179 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs.

In response, Gujarat Titans got off to a poor start, losing both their openers early. Skipper Rohit Sharma tried to anchor the innings with a gritty knock of 57 runs off 43 balls, but he did not receive much support from the other batsmen. Krishnappa Gowtham and Rashid Khan made useful contributions lower down the order, but it was not enough to take the team over the line.

For Kolkata Knight Riders, Varun Chakravarthy was the pick of the bowlers, picking up three wickets for just 22 runs in his four overs. The other bowlers also bowled well, with Prasidh Krishna and Lockie Ferguson picking up two wickets apiece.

In the end, Gujarat Titans fell short of the target, finishing their innings at 155 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs, giving Kolkata Knight Riders a 24-run victory.

The win took Kolkata Knight Riders to the top of the points table, with four wins from five matches, while Gujarat Titans remained in the bottom half of the table, with just one win from their five matches.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) swashbuckling batter Rinku Singh, who smashed a quickfire 37 runs off 19 balls, said he believed in himself that he could do it during the match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2023.

Rinku came into bat at number six when the KKR required 54 runs from 29 balls. He started hitting big shots from the very first ball he faced and soon turned the match in KKR's favor. His knock included two fours and three sixes as he smashed 24 runs in the 18th over bowled by GT's Ankit Soni.

"I had the belief that I could do it. When I was going inside the ground, I was just thinking that I need to be there and see the ball well. I got the first ball, and I was just looking to hit, and I hit the first ball, and I got confidence from there, and I was just playing my shots," said Rinku Singh after the match.

The left-handed batsman also praised the team's bowlers for their exceptional performance and said that the team was motivated to win the match.


The win against Gujarat Titans marked KKR's second win in the tournament, and they are currently placed at the top of the points table.
